Louis Sharpe

Based in Chifley, Louis is a passionate foodie, enthusiastic summer cricketer, and a family man who loves spending time with his violist wife Alina, their son Felix, and their mischievous cat Proky. Over the past eight years, he’s become a familiar face in Canberra’s musical community, bringing people together through music and sharing his love of performance with audiences and musicians alike.
Before making Canberra home, Louis worked with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra as assistant to Dr Nicholas Milton AM, while also serving as Music Director of the East Sydney Chamber Orchestra. In Melbourne, he co-founded the Hopkins Sinfonia, a project created to give young conductors the rare chance to learn, experiment and grow in front of a live ensemble.
Louis also works as Assistant Conductor to the Australian World Orchestra, where he has collaborated with Artistic Director Alexander Briger AO, Sir Simon Rattle and Maestro Zubin Mehta. Alongside conducting, he teaches percussion at Canberra Grammar School, where he enjoys encouraging the next generation of musicians.
Whether playing percussion with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra or leading the National Capital Orchestra as Artistic Director, Louis is happiest when making music with others. He loves helping musicians grow, building welcoming musical communities, and creating performances that leave a lasting impression. For Louis, music is ultimately about connection—bringing people together and sharing something meaningful with the Canberra community he is proud to call home.
